Inventory Item Notes are specific notes that can be assigned to an inventory item. These are typically used to provide site-specific information, such as storage requirements. There are two ways to enter inventory item notes into 3E Online:

  • Edit Inventory Item: Within the Search Inventory tab, users can select the Edit Inventory Item from action menu to add inventory item notes.

  • Quantity Download/Upload: Users can also now utilize the Quantity Download/Upload feature to upload batches of inventory item notes. Simply select a location and click Download. The inventory will appear in Excel format. Users can then enter inventory item notes. Once completed, save the file to your computer and select Upload. Once the upload is complete, your inventory item notes will be available via the Action button.

"Have any changes been made recently to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations?"

The 49th edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations was published in October 2007 and took effect on January 1, 2008.  This edition of IATA replaces the 48th edition which must not be used after December 31, 2007, unless specifically permitted.

The 49th edition incorporates all amendments made by the Dangerous Goods Board and includes changes advised, at time of printing, by ICAO to the 2007-2008 Edition of the ICAO Technical Instructions.

Key changes in the 49th edition include:

  • A reference to Special Provision A123 has been added against in the light type entry for “Batteries, dry” to reinforce that the battery terminals must be protected against short-circuit, even though the batteries themselves are not regulated for transport;
  • Reference to “Keep Away From Heat” label has been added for organic peroxides and reactive substances of Division 4.1 to reinforce the requirements of Special Provision A20;
  • The proper shipping name for UN 2949 – Sodium hydrosulphide has been revised to add “hydrated”;
  • Special Provision A154 has been added against UN 3090 – Lithium batteries and UN 3091– Lithium batteries contained in equipment and Lithium batteries packed with equipment to identify that lithium batteries subject to safety recall by the manufacturer or those that have been damaged are forbidden for transport;
  • Packing instructions 203, Y203, 204 and Y204 have been revised to reinforce that valves on aerosols must be protected from inadvertent activation when they are packed for transport;
  • Packing instructions 902 and 910 have been revised to specify that shippers must provide written documentation stating the number of packages and the weights in each unit load device containing magnetized materials or consumer commodities.

The 49th edition is in effect from January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008.

WEB SEMINARS

Join 3E Company on Wednesday, January 23 for our first 2008 EH&S Web Seminar: "The Federal Government's Emergency Response Plan: Implications for Corporate EH&S."

9/11, the Anthrax attacks and Hurricane Katrina have shown the need for a rapid yet coordinated governmental response to incidents of mass destruction, either natural or man-made.  As a result, the federal government has developed and modified a complex and thorough plan that describes governmental response and coordination, called the "National Response Plan."

Many corporate EH&S officials have developed facility plans and coordination mechanisms for dealing with hazardous substance releases, however the interaction with the government during an "incident of mass destruction" will be significantly different than a local response.  It is imperative for corporate EH&S, operational staff and executives to become knowledgeable about the federal National Response Plan and its implications on the operations of the company during and after such an incident.

For this Web seminar, 3E Company is proud to present Former EPA Deputy Regional Administrator, Thomas C. Voltaggio, who will discuss the following:

  • The history of government response to incidents of mass destruction;
  • the development of the Department of Homeland Security; and
  • the National Response Plan and the issues that corporate EH&S officials should be considering in modifying their own facility or company response plans.

This web seminar has been approved for Certification Maintenance Points (CMP) through the IHMM.
