Last week, 3E Company announced the availability of a new enhancement for 3E Online-MSDS, our award-winning material safety data sheet (MSDS) management system. The new document change notification feature alerts users when a new or revised MSDS is added to their catalog and allows side by side document comparison. The full press release can be viewed here.
Earlier in the month, we announced the availability of MSDgen 6.0, a new version of our MSDgen MSDS authoring system. MSDgen 6.0 boasts several innovative enhancements to further simplify the development and maintenance of globally compliant and reliable hazard communication documentation, including features which facilitate compliance with Europe's Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) regulatory framework for chemical substances as well as the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labeling of chemicals. In addition to promoting environmental regulatory compliance, these new features also benefit users by helping them work more efficiently and increasing productivity. 3E Online Document Change Notification Now Available - NEW!
3E Online customers can now be notified on a weekly basis via email when there is a new or revised MSDS added to their catalog. The notification emails will contain links to both the new document and the old document (if it’s a revision) for easy comparison. 3E Online users can subscribe/unsubscribe to this service by logging in to 3E Online and clicking on the Admin tab. This new feature is included as an enhancement to the existing 3E Online service and there is no fee to subscribe.

Updating Quantity Data in 3E Online
There are two ways to go about entering/updating quantity data in 3E Online – product by product using the Edit Inventory Item feature or you can do a mass quantity update for multiple products at one time using the Update Quantity Data feature which can be found under the Inventory Tab within 3E Online.
Rather than adding quantity data one by one to all the products in your inventory, you can download your location’s inventory into an Excel spreadsheet and enter the quantity data for all products in that inventory at one time. Once all your quantity data has been entered into the spreadsheet, simply save the file for easy upload back into 3E Online using the Update Quantity Data feature.
This feature is useful for updating the various types of quantity data captured in 3E Online including quantities for SARA Tier II and 313, DHS and REACH.

"What do I need to know about the REACH pre-registered substances list?"
On October 7, 2008, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published an intermediate list of pre-registered substances containing roughly 40,000 substances. This intermediate list covers those substances that have been pre-registered between June 1, 2008 and October 1, 2008. Companies that have pre-registered their substances by December 1, 2008 can benefit from extended registration deadlines (based on the tonnage and hazardous properties of the substances). Otherwise, they have to go through the full registration process and pay the registration fee. It is anticipated that the final list of pre-registered substances will be published by January 1, 2009 replacing the intermediate list.

Linda Allen
December 19, 1957 - October 5, 2008
This month's column is dedicated to one of 3E Company's most dedicated and loyal Experts, Vice President of Operations Linda Allen, who sadly passed away on October 5th.
Linda joined 3E Company nearly twenty years ago and was a key component in helping 3E grow 
from a small local company to a large international business. As Vice President of Operations, Linda was involved in nearly every aspect of our business, and she served our clients through strong leadership and with a bright spirit. She was also instrumental in developing 3E's successful Inventory Management, Regulatory and Online service offerings.
3E's customers were of paramount importance to Linda. She instilled this passion in her colleagues and her spirit will continue on in the great number of people she influenced throughout her career. She cultivated strength in her management team, which will carry on in her absence with her very simple philosophy of creating moments of customer delight.
Linda's 3E legacy is formidable, but was also a dedicated and loving wife and mother to her husband, Stacy; her son, Keith; and her daughter, Kendra. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her beautiful gardens, decorating her home and listening to music. She was also a member of The Executive Committee's Key Group, a professional organization for CEOs and executives in key management positions.
She will deeply missed by her family, friend and colleagues. We are grateful, however, to have learned from her great example. Her memory will live on as her dedicated staff strives to move beyond this difficult time and continue in a manner which would make her proud.
